World’s most powerful car battery powers the Rolls Royce Experimental Electric Concept

Rolls Royce showed us an electric version of its Phantom dubbed ‘Experimental Electric concept’ back at the Geneva Motor Show in March. Now that got us wondering, one of the largest and heaviest cars in the world would require a really powerful electric motor and an even bigger battery to keep it running, even for short trips. That is where Axeon, Europe’s leading independent lithium ion battery designer and manufacturer comes in. Rolls Royce are yet to decide whether to put their Electrified Phantom to production but what we do know is that they are testing and collecting feedback from their customers and fans on this one-off model. So what does Axeon’s batter boast?
World’s most powerful car battery

Axeon’s battery pack contains 96 NCM (Lithium-Nickel-Cobalt-Manganese-Oxide, that pack higher power densities compared to conventional lithium-ion batteries) pouch cells which are intelligently packaged into the space normally taken by the engine and transmission maintaining a perfect weight distribution of 50:50. This particulat battery pack is considered (though not confirmed) the largest in the world both in terms of capacity and power – 71 kWH capacity rated at 388V DC (Peak current that can be delivered is 850Ah, 330kW). Thanks to this massive battery pack, the Rolls can waft up to 200km. Flat-out acceleration to 100km/h comes up in 8 sec. Recharging is taken care by an advanced wireless induction charging system and takes about eight hours.
If you believe that the Rolls deserves a traditional V12, you have the right to be heard. Just head over to www.electricluxury.com and join the debate. However if you appreciate an electrified Rolls, then all you need to do is check when the Rolls hits your country as it has embarked on a worldwide tour covering UK, Europe, Asia Pacific, the Middle East and North America.
