Renault Captur Concept

Renault Captur Concept
This is Renault's striking Captur concept car that's part of the French firm's new design plan. It's a crossover, so it blends the best bits of a hatchback, an MPV and a coupé, but it also has a removable hard-top, so it can become a convertible when the sun comes out.

What's all the fuss about?Styling elements from the Captur are likely to make their way onto Renaults of the future, so it's more a design exercise than a possible production car. The concept's exterior designer, Julio Lozano, claims that the bodywork was inspired by a sprinter on the starting blocks.
Inside, the Captur is stripped down to the bare essentials to save weight. The seats are mounted to the centre console, rather than the floor, to give the impression that they're floating. Finally, an eerie orange light emits from behind the translucent dashboard material.

Any new technology?Renault's 158bhp Energy dCi twin-turbo engine provides the power. The company reckons that the Captur will be capable of 130mph flat out while emitting only 99g/km of CO2, which would render it tax free under current UK regulations.
There's space for two passengers in the rear and an area with three layers of rope that can be used to create storage space and/or pin down heavy loads - or even be formed into hammocks for passengers.
Estimated release date: Not likely
Estimated cost: Priceless
