200mph, 100mpg Supercar

200mph, 100mpg Supercar
British performance car maker Trident is about to reveal its latest model - the Iceni - billed as the most economical supercar on sale. It's powered by a 6.6-litre turbodiesel V8 engine, which makes it capable of 200mph and 0-62mph in less than four seconds.
That might not sound like the last word in economy, but low weight and unique engineering render the Iceni one of the most frugal performance cars around.
It runs on bio-diesel, but the really clever bit is the Trident's rear-mounted, eight-speed automatic gearbox.
The relaxed gearing means that the engine can remain at low revs most of the time, which makes it a great cruiser and improves fuel economy. It's said that the revs are around 60 percent lower at 70mph than they are in a conventional car.

During a steady run, the Iceni should be able to crack 100mpg - equivalent to 2,000 miles between fill-ups. Trident will officially unveil the Iceni at the Chomondeley Pageant of Power on July 15-17.
The car has been in development for more than eight years and has changed considerably from the original prototypes. It's expected to cost around £120,000 when it eventually goes on sale.
